YIVO Institute for Jewish Research

The YIVO Library contains over 350,000 books and periodicals. The YIVO Archives holds over 23 million documents, photographs, recordings, posters, films, videotapes, and ephemera. Together, they constitute one of the world’s foremost resources for the study of the Jews of eastern Europe and Russia, Yiddish literature and language, the Holocaust, and the American Jewish immigrant experience.

Researchers may come directly to the YIVO reading room. No prior appointment is required. Requests for Sunday usage must be received by 4:30PM on the preceding Thursday.
